In most cases, a film is released via OTT platforms after it has completed its theatrical run. Soorarai Pottru, on the other side, starring Suriya, was the first broadcast on an OTT site before being released in theatres. After a 15-month OTT release, the film has finally been released in theatres in Tamil Nadu. Suriya’s film, which was released in 2020, was one of the most critically acclaimed Tamil films.
Because of the COVID-19 epidemic, the film was not released in theatres and instead became available for direct streaming on Amazon Prime Video on November 12, 2020.
On February 4, Soorarai Pottru was re-released in theatres. The film is currently being screened in a Madurai theatre named Midland Theatre with special permission, making it a delightful treat for Suriya fans. On social media, many photos and videos taken in front of Madurai’s Midland Theatres went viral. Outside the theatre, a large crowd had gathered. Fans in Madurai couldn’t contain their joy as they celebrated the film’s re-release.

Suriya and Guneet Monga’s banners, 2D Entertainment and Sikhya Entertainment, respectively, co-produced the 2020 film. Sudha Kongara is the director of the film. Apart from Suriya, the film also features Paresh Rawal and Aparna Balamurali in pivotal roles. Urvashi, Mohan Babu, and Karunas, who joined the cast as supporting characters, also made an impression with their performances. Soorarai Pottru was one of ten Indian films to be screened in the best foreign picture category at the 78th Golden Globe Awards.
