Outer Banks Season 3: In recent weeks, Netflix has been bringing back fan favorites, with new seasons of Emily in Paris, The Witcher, and Cobra Kai all arriving in the last month. But we know exactly what you’ve been waiting for: more Pogues! Last summer, Outer Banks, called OBX, premiered its second season, which included multiple plot twists that left fans of the hit teen drama scratching their heads. Do you want to know when Season 3 of OBX will be available on Netflix? We’re here to assist you.
Chase Stokes plays John B, a hunky kid on the lookout for hidden wealth in the laid-back Outer Banks. Things start to go a little crazier than intended once he recruits a few of his pals and new girlfriend Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline). Season 2 carried us through another flurry of emotions after Season 1 separated John B and Sarah from the rest of the troupe.
Are you prepared for Season 3? Here’s what we know about the Outer Banks’ future.
Outer Banks Season 3 Release Date
Netflix has officially renewed Outer Banks for a third season in December 2021, which is not surprising given the show’s popularity in the United States this summer. The smash Netflix hit’s creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke will all return as executive producers and showrunners. The streaming behemoth has yet to set a release date.
Jonas Pate previously stated that he expected Outer Banks to have four to five seasons, but Netflix will ultimately decide whether or not to order more episodes of the famous American teen drama.
According to a Small Screen article, one of the show’s participants informed the outlet that they “It’s impossible to confirm or refute what’s going on with OB S3. I will say that S3 will not be released this year.”
Despite speculations, including one that was shared on Facebook, that Outer Banks has been cancelled, we have yet to learn what the series’ future plans are.
According to a report from Small Screen in September 2021, an unidentified insider engaged in the development of Outer Banks Season 3 claimed that, if all goes according to plan, the third season will most likely premiere in the middle of 2022. Season 4’s script is already being written, according to the unconfirmed source. Outer Banks Season 3 is officially in the works at Netflix, according to Small Screen.
According to production schedules, filming for Outer Banks Season 3 will resume in Charleston, South Carolina from February 16 to August 19, 2022. Filming dates are, however, open to alter, so there should be no delays owing to the current pandemic.
Director Valerie Weiss shared a photo of the Outer Banks cast and crew on Instagram on Feb. 13, 2022, with the caption: “Big love to my @obx family as they begin shooting Outer Banks Season Season 3 tomorrow!!!!” “I’ll see you all soon.”
Seasons 1 and 2 of Outer Banks include spoilers
Each season on the Outer Banks ends with a (ridiculous, but unquestionably delightful) bang. Teen dramas have a long history of dramatic cliffhangers, and the Netflix fan favorite about a group of young misfits chasing fortunes down the North Carolina coast doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel. If you’ve ever watched a teen drama, you’re familiar with the routine: Put your reservations aside. Don’t fall for the nonsense. After then, the real fun may begin.
Season 1’s climax saw orphaned fugitive John B Routledge’s reckless attempt to elude police apprehension, which resulted in him crashing his boat into a tropical storm. But he and his rich-girl flame, Sarah Cameron, were soon found to have survived the shipwreck—and not only were they alive and well, but they were rescued by a boat bound for Nassau, where they would find $400 million in gold.
But wait, there’s more—season 2 ups the ante to a terrifying level. There are vehicle chases to be had! Heists! An ambulance that has been stolen! Explosions aboard the boat! Alligators are attacking! A shady doctor and his even shadier method of patching up bullet wounds! Wasp stings cause allergic reactions! Sewer backups! In the pouring rain, a murder! Don’t worry about if anything makes sense—just take it all in. It’ll be impossible to remember everything that happened by the end of the second season, but you’ll be too high on adrenaline to care. And all you can do is clap dumbly for an encore after that momentous reveal in the dying seconds of the finale.
Rest assured, there will almost probably be an encore. Here’s a look forward to the future—and what we know about the Pogues’ next chapter—as you recover from your OBX acid trip.
What will Outer Banks Season 3 be about?
Netflix has yet to reveal any formal storyline specifics, although the third season is likely to continue the treasure search begun in the first and second seasons. The $400 million in gold is still in the Bahamas, and there’s now a bejeweled cross thrown in for good measure!
Sarah’s wicked father, Ward Cameron, is hurt but alive, having officially passed the mantle to his increasingly unpredictable son, Rafe, who will no sure seek vengeance on John B and his gang. Meanwhile, John B and Sarah are once again sorts of married (?), and Cleo from Nassau has joined the Pogues, shipwrecked (presumably without food or water?) on an island in the Caribbean. Outer Banks Season Season 3 will likely focus on their return home, as well as their grand scheme to reclaim the cross and the gold. The presumed reunion between John B and his long-thought-deceased father, Big John, who appears to know something about the sacred garment the terrifying Limbrey seeks to treat her unexplained ailment, will be the most crucial.
Outer Banks Season 3 Plot
This article contains spoilers for the second season of “Outer Banks.”
Season 2 concludes on a big cliffhanger, similar to Season 1 of “Outer Banks,” which will have long-term consequences for the show. The Pogues obtain temporary ownership of a golden cross throughout the show, but it eventually falls into the wrong hands. The group was once again on the verge of finding a valuable item that would greatly enhance their lives, but it all goes apart at the last minute.
That doesn’t rule out the possibility of the Pogues receiving some unexpected assistance in Season 3. The major revelation at the end of the previous season was that Big John (Charles Halford), John B’s father, is still alive. Ward was said to have killed him from the beginning of the series, but his body was never located. He’s been hiding all this time, it turns out. Big John is with Limbrey (Elizabeth Mitchell) and offers to assist her in finding the shroud. She must, however, agree to assist John B. in his quest.
We’re not going to see Big John for a long time. If the show is renewed, we can expect a highly emotional reunion in the future.

2. Does Outer Banks film in the real Outer Banks?
You’d be right if you were skeptical of the show being filmed in the real Outer Banks of North Carolina after seeing palm palms and people taking a ferry to landlocked Chapel Hill, North Carolina. That is due to the fact that it isn’t. Netflix elected to relocate filming locations to Charleston, South Carolina after the state’s anti-LGBTQ “bathroom bill” became law. “It was 100% Wilmington [North Carolina] in our heads when we wrote it,” Pate told the Wilmington Star-News last year. “Netflix took the correct decision in insisting on diversity, and we fully support their decision.”
3. How to watch Outer Banks?
Outer Banks has an exclusive streaming home on Netflix, where you can watch the 10-episode first season and 10-episode the second season.
