Oscar Nominations 2022: Writing with Fire Nominated

Oscar nominations 2022, Writing With Fire, a documentary by Delhi-based filmmakers Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh has been nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Documentary Feature category this year.

Since winning the Special Jury (Impact for Change) and Audience honours at the Sundance Film Festival in January of last year, the documentary film has been making headlines. It has won more than 20 international accolades since then.

Writing with Fire was dubbed “the most inspiring journalism movie – possibly ever” by the Washington Post.

“As filmmakers, Rintu and I have always been interested in highlighting stories of resilience and optimism,” co-director Sushmit Ghosh told News Media earlier. Writing With Fire has had a fantastic year, and it’s inspiring to see a film from India adored by viewers all across the world.”

The duo’s debut feature documentary, centered on a one-of-a-kind rural newspaper called Khabar Lahariya, which has been run by Dalit women since 2002, sheds light on their journey as they pose necessary questions about caste and patriarchy.

Other nominees in the Best Documentary Feature category are Ascension, Attica, Flee, and Summer of the Soul, in addition to Writing with Fire (Or When the Revolution Could not be Televised).
